Let Drum Beat

Rhythms of the Moon with Let Drum Beat on this A World in London! Click: https://www.mixcloud.com/Resonance/a-world-in-london-11-march-2020/

Back in 2017 we marked International Women's Day with four fierce and talented women in the shape of Let Drum Beat. Three years later on March 11th, they again joined us in the studio, to celebrate women and womanhood in all its forms. Let Drum Beat are an inspirational London-based quartet of women from Brazil, France/Benin and Scotland, playing Afro-Brazilian rhythms across an array of percussion instruments, accompanied by melodic voices. In our exclusive live session with them, every track they performed was enthralling, rhythmic and original - you'll find it hard to keep your hips still! Let Drum Beat’s debut album is called "Lua Cheia" which means ‘full moon’ in Portuguese. It's named after the title track, written by band member Lizzie Ogle whilst she was living in Manor House and dreaming of the moon rising over the ocean in Brazil. Luckily, Lizzie returned to Brazil last year to see this sight for real, and recorded Lua Cheia there with bandmates Alba Cabral, Bea Shantifa and Tuca Milan. Recordings took place at a remote Sao Paulo cabin nestling in the middle of the Brazilian rainforest, where the sounds of nature on each track suffuse through body percussion, drums, and traditional instruments, like rabeca & charango. All round, Let Drum Beat have had an incredibly fertile 2020, with Alba and Bea both becoming first-time mothers, Lizzie completing her PhD, and Tuca overseeing the birth of Lua Cheia itself! Hear it in full glory on this AWIL and look out for Let Drum Beat’s boomtastic launch party in autumn when we’ve Beaten this COVID thing!
